Aids-to-Navigation and

Chart Updating Programs

The Coast Guard has the responsibility for the establishment and maintenance of all Aids to Navigation (ATONs) on the waterways of the U.S. This is an all-inclusive responsibility, and it includes the coastal waters and inland waters of the U.S. The Coast Guard Auxiliary provides assistance to the Coast Guard in Aids to Navigation missions and National Oceans Service in its chart updating missions.

Flotilla 14 is specifically responsible for verification of all ATONs between the Navarre Bridge and east end of Chatawhatchee Bay. This area includes the Santa Rosa Sound, Boggy Bayou, Rocky Bayou, Destin Harbor and the Intra-Coastal Waterway in the Chatawhatchee Bay. Flotilla members verify quarterly the location and proper operation of each aid. Lights and their sequences are checked either from shore or boat.

The flotilla is responsible for updating information on NOAA chart number 11385. Chart information frequently updated by members includes marina resources.
